The World of Concrete show just wrapped up last Friday in Las Vegas, Nevada.  Now in its 39^th year, the WOC show covers more than 550,000 square feet of exhibition space and was attended by more than 50,000 concrete industry professionals.

2012 was the second year for Atlas EPS to be exhibiting at WOC.  This year we had a new, custom booth that featured product displays that accurately conveyed common application details of our ThermalStar® X-Grade™ product and our Elevation® Geofoam product.  Our booth also utilized a flat-screen monitor displaying Elevation installation photos, as well as a conference room constructed using our X-Grade product.

The Atlas EPS booth was located in the central hall near the large concrete pump trucks and earth moving equipment area.  The traffic in the central hall is typically the strongest and this year did not disappoint.  Most of the time, the Atlas EPS booth staff was answering the questions of multiple potential customers.  These customers were from all over North America with some also attending from Europe, Asia, and South America.

The X-Grade and Elevation product representation both enjoyed an overwhelmingly positive response from visitors to our booth.  The customers most interested in the X-Grade product seemed particularly keen on the integrated termiticide featured in the product.  The Elevation display seemed to be eye-opening for the customers who did retaining wall work.  Many seemed unaware of the benefits of using Elevation Geofoam instead of traditional soil fill.

Overall, the World of Concrete show was a great success for Atlas EPS.  Many new contacts were made and many existing relationships were renewed.  If you are going to be out in Las Vegas next January, please plan on visiting the Atlas EPS World of Concrete booth in 2013!

The playground equipment was old and needed replacing. The tennis courts had weeds growing up through cracks in the concrete. The picnic tables needed to be painted.

The Creston Neighborhood Association, in conjunction with non-profit playground, Kaboom!, and local businesses, organized a complete renovation of the park.

On Friday, May 13, more than 200 volunteers from Atlas EPS, Amway and other local businesses, worked through hot and muggy weather to create a brand new icon in the neighborhood. An elaborate playground structure designed by local children was installed in less than six hours. Other improvements and additions included a butterfly garden, resurfacing of the basketball courts, new wooden planters, benches and picnic tables, and the spreading of more than 200 cubic yards of mulch.

According to Kaboom!, four out of five children don’t have a safe park within walking distance of their homes. This situation leads to what they call “The Play Deficit,” a lack of adequate outdoor play that can lead to a host of physical, social and intellectual of ills.

Thanks for the involvement of the volunteers and businesses, approximately 600 local West Michigan children now have a great place to play safely for years to come.
